How we work

How we deliver.

  1. 01

    Feasibility

Vessel documents and a condition survey, then a first check of capacity, stability and strength in the converted condition — with an order-of-magnitude cost and schedule.

  2. 02

    Concept & basic design

The new general arrangement, tank and system changes and the structural concept, agreed with the owner before anything is submitted.

  3. 03

    Class & flag approval

Structural drawings, scantling calculations and stability documentation prepared and submitted; comments answered until approval.

  4. 04

    Yard supervision

Drawings to the shop floor, inspection of the work in progress and attendance at class surveys on the owner’s behalf.

  5. 05

    Delivery documents

Inclining experiment, approved stability booklet and loading manual — and a vessel-specific loading computer if the trade needs one.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Which conversions do you handle?

Bulk carriers, container ships, tankers, RoRo and passenger ships converted to livestock carriers or other trades, plus lengthening, widening and jumboisation. MV LEADER M, formerly a bulk carrier, and MV OSAMA BEY, formerly a container ship, now trade as livestock carriers.

What does a conversion feasibility study cover?

Lightship and deadweight in the new configuration, intact stability, longitudinal strength, freeboard and tonnage, the main structural and system changes, class and flag requirements, and an estimate of cost and yard time.

Is a new stability booklet needed after a conversion?

Almost always. A conversion changes the lightship weight and its centre of gravity, so an inclining experiment is carried out and the stability booklet and loading manual are re-issued for approval.

Do you work alongside the shipyard?

Yes — we supply the approved drawings, answer the yard’s technical queries and attend on the owner’s behalf through the works and the class surveys.
