Non-Destructive Testing

Detect flaws before they become failures.

Overview

Certified ultrasonic thickness gauging and weld inspection of hulls and pipework, without damaging the structure — reported the way class surveyors expect.

01

Scope of work

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) — thickness gauging, weld scans, phased array
  • Magnetic Particle (MT) & Penetrant (PT) testing
  • Radiographic Testing (RT) — film & digital
  • Visual Inspection (VT) of welds & coatings
  • Hardness testing & ferrite measurement
  • Underwater inspection coordination

02

Deliverables

  • Detailed NDT reports with mapped indications
  • Class-acceptable test certificates
  • Repair recommendations
  • Photo & digital scan archive

03

Standards & references

  • ISO 9712
  • ASNT-TC-1A
  • EN ISO 17640 / 23277 / 9934
  • IACS recommendations

How we work

How we deliver.

  1. 01

    Survey planning

The areas and extent required for the survey agreed, and access, cleaning and gas-freeing arranged.

  2. 02

    Inspection

Thickness gauging and weld examination with the right method for each case — UT, MT, PT, RT or VT.

  3. 03

    Reporting

Readings tabulated and mapped on sketches with their diminution against the original thickness; any defects located and described.

  4. 04

    Follow-up

Repair recommendations, and re-inspection of the repairs for the attending surveyor.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Which NDT methods do you use?

Ultrasonic testing — thickness measurement, weld scanning and phased array — magnetic particle and dye penetrant testing, radiography, visual inspection and hardness testing.

When are thickness measurements needed?

At class renewal surveys, at intermediate surveys for older ships and certain ship types, and whenever damage or heavy corrosion is suspected.

Do you report in the format class requires?

Yes — readings are reported to the classification society’s requirements, ready for review by the attending surveyor.
